NHS Blood Types

The NHS Blood Types Animation Project was developed to educate the public on the importance of knowing their blood type and how it affects blood donations, transfusions, and overall healthcare.

This informative set of animations simplifies complex medical concepts using clear, engaging visuals and motion graphics, making it accessible to a wide audience.

Key Topics Covered:
✔ What are blood types? An overview of the A, B, AB, and O blood groups and their unique characteristics.
✔ Understanding Rh factors (+/-): Why positive and negative blood types matter in transfusions.
✔ Universal donors & recipients: The critical role of O-negative donors in emergency healthcare.
✔ The life-saving impact of blood donation: How donations help patients and why knowing your blood type is essential.

Why This Animation Matters
By combining informative narration, stylised motion graphics, and intuitive visuals, this project enhances public awareness and encourages people to learn about their blood type, donation eligibility, and its role in medical treatments.

This initiative directly supports NHS blood donation campaigns by increasing public engagement, fostering awareness, and ultimately saving lives.

I collaborated with another animation artist at Cass Productions to develop a unique visual style and theme for the project. We drew inspiration from classic 1960s cartoons, taking cues from legendary shows like The Flintstones and Top Cat. This nostalgic, playful aesthetic helped transform a complex medical topic into something engaging, approachable, and easy to digest for a wide audience.
